SWE UMN Membership
The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) was established in 1950 and has given women a voice and unique position in the STEM industry for more than seven decades. Today, with more than 400 collegiate and professional sections both in the U.S. and internationally, SWE connects women to a network of more than 40,000 individual members. On campus, our section has over 300 active members.
Anyone can become a member of our SWE section here at the U of M! You don’t have to be a
scientist, engineer, or even a woman to join. It’s a great opportunity for volunteering and
professional growth! Our section is open to all students interested in joining.
To join SWE UMN, all you have to do is attend events. We track attendance to events by
signing into a form when you attend an event. Each event is worth 1 star, and the number of stars
you have shows how many events you attended for the semester. You are automatically a general
member of SWE UMN when you receive a star.
Depending on the number of stars you receive in a semester, there are different tiers of
membership:
● Attend events to earn at least 10 stars a semester to be considered an active member
● Earn 10-19 stars to become a bronze star active member
● Earn 20-34 stars to become a silver star active member
● Earn 35+ stars to become a gold star active member
Find out about events by signing up for our weekly email the SWEekly, adding our google
calendar, or following our instagram. (add social links)
To keep track of your star count for the semester, access the star chart (add spring star chart) and
search your name. If you have any questions about SWE UMN membership, please email
swe@umn.edu.
