Gold Level Section

Gold Level Section: At WE24 in Chicago, the University of Minnesota Twin Cities SWE section was awarded the title of “Gold Level” section. This is the highest honor a collegiate SWE section can receive, and it demonstrates exceptional alignment with SWE core values and continuous improvement and growth as our section works to achieve the Society’s strategic goals of Advocacy & Collaboration, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging, Global Community, and Growth & Excellence. 


Tony Diggs Excellence in Leadership Development Award


 In 2024, SWE-UMN was recognized for creating leadership opportunities and supporting the leadership development of our members.


University of Minnesota College of Science and Engineering Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Student Group Award


In 2024, SWE-UMN was recognized for DEI-focused contributions in the areas of advocacy, volunteer work, and engagement that had a positive impact on the College of Science and Engineering, the University, and the Twin Cities communities through DEI initiatives.


2023



Gold Level Section

At WE23 in Los Angeles, the University of Minnesota Twin Cities SWE section was awarded the title of “Gold Level” section. This is the highest honor a collegiate SWE section can receive, and it demonstrates exceptional alignment with SWE core values and continuous improvement and growth as our section works to achieve the Society’s strategic goals of Advocacy & Collaboration, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging, Global Community, and Growth & Excellence.


2021


Gold Level Section

At WE21 in Indianapolis, the University of Minnesota Twin Cities SWE section was awarded the title of “Gold Level” section for the fourth year in a row.

STRATEGIC GOAL #2: GLOBALIZATION – BEST PRACTICE – GLOBAL

In 2021, our section was recognized for our focus on diversity and inclusion, as well as multicultural and global outreach events.

STRATEGIC GOAL #3: ADVOCACY – BEST PRACTICE – AWARDS & RECOGNITION

In 2021, our section was recognized for our awards program and our practice of nominating our members for awards outside of our section.

TEAM TECH COMPETITION – 2ND PLACE

At the WE21 conference in Indianapolis, Team Tech placed second in the 2021 Team Tech competition for their Machine Health Monitoring System project, in which they partnered with John Deere.


2020


Gold Level Section

At the virtual WE20 conference, the University of Minnesota Twin Cities SWE section was awarded the title of “Gold Level” section for the third year in a row.


2019


The Rising Star Award – Madison Best

At WE19, our 2019-2020 Vice President, Madison Best, was awarded The Rising Star Award for her outstanding contributions to SWE, the engineering community, University of Minnesota campus, and community. This award is only given to collegiate level SWE members with less than 2 years of SWE membership at the end of the previous fiscal year.

Gold Level Section

At WE19 in Anaheim, the University of Minnesota Twin Cities SWE section was awarded the title of “Gold Level” section for the second year in a row.

Multicultural Best Practice Award

At WE19, our section was awarded the Multicultural Best Practice Award for the 50K Coalition Dinner that is hosted by our section annually.

Joint Professional/Collegiate Event Award

At WE Local in Des Moines, our section was awarded the Joint Professional/Collegiate Event Award for our Practice Interview Event with Ford in preparation for the College of Science & Engineering (CSE) Fall Career Fair.


2018


Gold Level Section

At WE18 in Minneapolis, the University of Minnesota Twin Cities SWE section was awarded the title of a “Gold Level” section, the Gold and Best Practice for Outreach Mission Awards, and an award for Public Policy.

Region H Professional Development Award

In 2018, the University of Minnesota Twin Cities SWE section was awarded the Region H Professional Development Award.

SWENext Outreach Video Challenge

In 2018, our SWE section was the winner of the SWENext Outreach Video Challenge Competition.


2017


Outstanding Event

In May 2017, we were lucky to have been awarded Outstanding Event for “SWEekend at the U”. We received this award at the TinMan Award Ceremony.


2016


S2S Volunteer Challenge

In October 2016, we received the award for having the most volunteering events for the SWE Schlumberger S2S competition, where SWE sections members and partners give back to their communities by volunteering time to community organizations and turn ideas into positive real-world impact.


Outstanding Collegiate Section

At the WE16 conference on October 29th 2016, we received the Outstanding Collegiate Section award, and our president, Elia Zanella received the Outstanding Collegiate Member award as well. Morgan, Samantha, and Hannah also won the WE16 ExxonMobil SME Bowl.
